Bumper Boxing Day and festive period bus services across the West Midlands


Boxing Day bus services across the West Midlands will be running at near-Sunday levels this year.

Bargain hunters heading for the sales can get to the shops on 26 subsidised routes and 155 services operated by National Express West Midlands.

Cllr Richard Worrall, chair of the West Midland Combined Authority’s transport delivery committee, which oversees TfWM, said: “We have worked closely with operators to speak to the public and establish what services they want over the Christmas period.

“As a result the number of services being laid on is as close to a full Sunday service as it has ever been.

“Whether you are going to the sales, for a day out or getting to work, there is a comprehensive bus network which will get you where you want to go.”

Between December 19 and December 23 there will be a normal weekday timetable, although National Express will have some minor reductions on some routes and Stagecoach will operate a school holiday timetable.

On Christmas Eve there will be a Saturday timetable but Johnson’s and First services will terminate from 8pm.

Stagecoach will operate a Saturday service until 8pm, after which services U1, X17, 48, 55, 56, 57, 57A will terminate early and/or not operate the entire route.

Arriva will provide a normal Saturday service with the exception of the No110 and the No 70. There will be no services on Christmas Day.

On Boxing Day National Express will provide a Sunday service between 8am - 7pm, with higher frequency routes operating until 11pm. Night bus services will not run in the early hours of Tuesday 27 December.

Arriva will operate a full Sunday service on routes 13, 19, 25, 28E, 35, 77 & 142 and a reduced service on routes 3A, 8A, 27, 36, 82, 208, 229, 257 & 530.

Central Buses will operate only routes X11 and X61 to the Boots distribution centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

Diamond Bus will operate a Sunday service on routes 002, 26A, 54A (West Bromwich), 71, 226, S2 & S3. They will also operate the No60A in Coventry and No55 in Brandhall and Smethwick.

Diamond Bus services 15A, 15C and 54 will be operated on this day only by National Express West Midlands.

First will operate an hourly daytime service on No144 between Birmingham to Worcester.

Hanson’s Local Bus service 55 from Brandhall to Smethwick will be operated on this day only by Diamond Bus.

Johnsons will operate a Sunday service on route X20 between Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon.

Travel de Courcey service 60A in Coventry will be operated on this day only by Diamond Bus.

No other bus services will operate.

On December 27 (Bank Holiday) National Express West Midlands and National Express Coventry will operate a Sunday service. Night buses will run in the early hours of December 28.

Central Buses will only operate routes X11 and X61 to the Boots distribution centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

Johnson’s Coach and Bus will only operate a Sunday service on the X20 between Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon.

All other operators, who normally operate on a Sunday, will operate to their Sunday timetables.

From December 28 to December 30 National Express services will run to their Saturday timetables. A number of services will operate additional peak hour journeys and night buses will run.

Central Buses will run to their Saturday timetables on all routes, with the exception of service 696 which will run to a normal weekday timetable.

Diamond Bus will run to their Saturday timetables on all routes, with the exception of services 108, X30 and X31 which will run to normal weekday timetables.

First will operate a normal weekday timetable on their route 144.

Hanson’s Local Bus will run to their Saturday timetables on all routes, with the exception of service 288 which will run to a normal weekday timetable.

Johnson's will run to their normal weekday timetable on all routes.

All other operators will run their Saturday timetables.

On New Year’s Eve, National Express services will run to Saturday timetables. Night bus services will run in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Arriva will provide a normal Saturday service apart from the No 110 and No70 services.

First, Johnson’s Coach and Bus and Stagecoach services will finish between 7pm and 8pm.

All other operators will run a normal Saturday timetable.

On New Year’s Day, National Express West Midlands will provide a Sunday service between 8am and 7pm, with higher frequency routes operating until 11pm.

Night bus services will run in the early hours of January 2.

National Express Coventry will operate special timetables on routes 4, 5, 6A, 8A, 9, 10, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 20A, 21, 23 and 23A. National Express West Midlands service X1 (formerly service 900) will operate to a normal Sunday timetable.

Arriva will operate a full Sunday service on routes 13, 19, 25, 28E, 35, 77 & 142 and a reduced service on routes 3A, 8A, 27, 36, 82, 208, 229, 257, 530.

Central Buses will only operate routes X11 and X61 to the Boots distribution centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

Diamond Bus will operate a normal Sunday service in the West Midlands only.

Hanson’s Local Bus will operate a normal Sunday service.

Johnson’s Coach and Bus will only operate a Sunday service on the X20 between Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Travel de Courcey will only be operating their service 60A to the Sunday timetable until 5.55pm.

On January 2 all National Express services will operate to their Sunday timetables. Night bus services will run in the early hours of January 3.

Central Buses will only operate routes X11 and X61 to the Boots distribution centre in Burton.

Johnson’s Coach and Bus will only operate a Sunday service on the X20 between Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon.

All other operators, will run their normal Sunday timetables.

Normal services will resume on all routes on January 4.

Rail services will see normal services by all operators up to Christmas Eve, when they will start to reduce from lunchtime onwards.

There will be no services Christmas Day or Boxing Day and then reduced services will run until January 4 when a normal timetable will resume.

On the Midland Metro, a normal service will operate between December 19 and Christmas Eve.

There will be no service on Christmas Day. On Boxing Day and December 27 a 10 minute service will run from 8am to 6pm, then a 15 minutes service from 6pm to 11pm.

A normal service will operate between December 28 to New Year’s Eve, while a Sunday service will operate on New Year’s Day.

January 2 will see a service every 12 minutes between 8am and 6pm, then a 15 minute service from 6pm to 11pm.

Ring and Ride will be offering a normal service from December 19 to Christmas Eve. There will be no services from Christmas Day to December 28.

A normal service will operate on December 27-31. There will be no service on New Year’s Day to January 2. Services will resume on January 3.
